Holiday Guide: Christmas Light Drive-Thru

It’s one of the best times of the years! Grab a cup of cocoa and turn on your Christmas lights! With the holiday season quickly approaching amidst the pandemic, many families are changing their plans, due to COVID-19. We believe it’s possible to stay safe, while enjoying the holiday festivities. One of our favorite activities is driving around to look at Christmas lights! This is a wonderful activity that practices social distancing, while still celebrating the holiday! We compiled a list of some great spots for your family to visit across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. This activity is particularly great for seniors. If your family lives out of state, a caregiver from a home health company can accompany mom and dad to drive them around town to view the lights.

1. Dallas ZOO

The Dallas Zoo is a family favorite! With over 1 million lights displayed, the Dallas Zoo offers a drive-thru experience that showcases a holiday safari of lights! With animal lanterns, an ice palace, and familiar parts of the zoo, your family is sure to enjoy this experience. Gates open from 6-9:30 PM through January 3rd.

2. Park Cities

The Park City neighborhoods around Dallas and Highland Park area feature beautiful lights and elegant homes. Up and down the streets, you will find extravagant houses lit with red, green, blue, and gold! Head towards Highland Park and drive around the surrounding areas, and you are sure to get caught in the magical lights. You might even spot some of the horse carriages roaming around the city. Best of all, this is completely free and you still experience the magic of the holiday season.

3. Prairie Lights

This is a tradition for families across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex! With over 5 million lights, this drive-thru experience is mesmerizing. This year, they even have a drive-thru concession stand, featuring a delicious treat- hot chocolate and other goodies! The lights circle around Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie, featuring reindeer, ornaments, nutcrackers, and the one-and-only, Santa Claus! This light show will bring out your inner child! We recommend going during the weekdays, when there is a shorter wait time. Prairie Lights is open until New Year’s Eve.

4. Candy Cane Lane

Candy Cane Lane is another great Christmas attraction that you can enjoy from the comfort of your car. Located at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, this light display has different levels that feature your favorite holiday characters. Around each corner is a new holiday treat. Since it’s inside the parking garage, you can catch the lights on a rainy day too! It is open until December 26th, so add this to your holiday list!

5. Radiance! A Holiday Light Spectacular

If you’re one of our North Texas friends, this is the place for you! If you love Christmas music, Radiance! A Holiday Light Spectacular has the best holiday classics. You’ll turn your radio to their special station and enjoy the lights with accompanying music. With two million lights, this drive-thru experience is here to brighten up your holiday! They have three shows located in Frisco, Weatherford, and Decatur. The light show will be running until January 3rd.

6. Gift Of Lights At Texas Motor Speedway

Located in Fort Worth Texas, Texas Motor Speedway is bringing back the annual light show! With over three million lights to enjoy, this family-friendly attraction is available until January 3rd. Experience the colors of Christmas at your favorite motor speedway! They even have food trucks, where you can order your food online and pick-up through the drive-thru. Food, laughs, and lights is a great combination!

7. Interlochen Lights Display

The homeowners of Arlington have spoken, and they are inviting you to their 40-year tradition! This is another great free option for your family and loved ones! Every December, Arlington residents at Lake Interlochen decorate their homes to share the spirit of Christmas. If you’re looking for an extravaganza that feels like home, we recommend driving through Interlochen. One of the best parts about this drive-thru experience is that the residents at Interlochen dedicate their time to help elderly neighbors decorate their homes. Everyone can use a helping hand during the holiday season!

These are some of our top picks for the best light shows across Dallas! For our senior friends, this is a great option to stay out of the cold and avoid COVID-19! We recommend bringing your caregiver to celebrate the good cheer of the holidays. Don’t forget to crank up the Christmas tunes and have a very merry holiday!
